The Final Gala of Tubądzin Design Awards 2020

On 25 February 2020, the long-awaited final of the 3rd edition of Tubądzin Design Awards was held. The concept of the event was to create spaces full of emotions, possibilities to exchange thoughts and have live meetings. And we did all that! We created a hybrid event where each of the competition winners played the main part. Having made sure that all applicable sanitary requirements were met, we invited the Polish TDA finalists to our studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź, providing them with an opportunity to collect the award in person and share their opinion on the project. Due to the high level of attendance of finalists from the Ukraine, we set up a second studio, where designers and architects could participate in the live event, which was moderated by Oksana Shumelda, one of the TDA 2020 jurors.

This year, 1300 participants from 83 countries took part in the competition. We had to take all efforts to make it possible for designers from countries such as Russia, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Malaysia or Moldova to share their experiences and present the concept of the projects they submitted in real time.

The event was hosted by Jarosław Kuźniar and Ewa Kryszkiewicz, who contributed to the event’s success with a combination of journalistic professionalism and substantial knowledge of the mechanics of a competition as well as of the design and architectural scene. The performance of Michał Kowalonek, who presented the audience in the studio and online to his music, added splendor to the event.

The award ceremony was preceded by a discussion panel with the jurors of Tubądzin Design Awards – Boris Kudlička, Małgorzata Szczepańska, Oksana Shumelda, Martin Duplantier, Tomasz Smus and Ewa Kryszkiewicz (project manager), moderated by Jaroslaw Kuźniar. The jurors tried to answer the question if it was possible to design happiness.

Selecting the best designs out of 824 submissions was a true challenge. The list of winners of this year’s Tubądzin Design Awards is presented below.
